Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2019 Mazda3 has the same returning trim levels from its past generation: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. Stepping up to the higher trims adds consecutively more features and upgrades. Drivers also get to choose either a sedan or hatchback model when shopping for a Mazda3. One interesting exterior update for 2019 is that the Touring model now has a dark aluminum design for the wheels. Drivers who emphasize body styling and exterior features will love the Grand Touring, which includes 18-inch wheels, rain-sensing automatic wipers, power-controlled exterior mirrors with heating, and the option to get adaptive LED headlights. Even in the base Sport, drivers get remote keyless entry and 16-inch wheels, plus a rear spoiler and alloy rims on hatchback models.
Engine (Power)
Two engines are available for the Mazda3. The base is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, while the beefier alternative for performance-minded drivers is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. Later in the year, Madza is expected to release another optional engine, a Skyactiv-X 2.0-liter with unique compression-ignition technology to significantly increase power, torque, and efficiency ratings. Another big change for 2019 is that the Touring model now has the 2.5-liter engine standard instead of as an option. This makes Touring Mazda3s all the more appealing for a middle trim level.
Performance
The 2019 Mazda3 comes with all sorts of performance updates, including a front strut design, more rigid body with acceleration-focused dampers, and a more assertive torque-vectoring system. You'll feel the thrill and force of a great four-cylinder paired with a lightweight, intelligently built car more than ever before. Also, unlike many cars of its kind, the Mazda3's standard transmission is a manual, specifically a six-speed, while drivers have the option to get a six-speed automatic on any trim level.
Interior
Filled with easy controls and comfortable seats, the Mazda3 is a great car to take on longer drives. New for 2019 on the Touring trim level are illuminated vanity mirrors with sunglasses holders standard rather than optional. Cargo space is generous, with even the sedan models getting 12.4 cubic feet of cargo space and hatchback models getting 20.2. Drivers can opt for a Premium Equipment package to get a full navigation system, a heated steering wheel, and much more.
Safety Features
Every standard security feature on 2018 Mazda3 models makes a return for 2019. However, as a welcome improvement to the safety suite, automatic emergency braking at lower speeds is now standard on all models. Once included as optional features in the i-ACTIVSENSE package, the Grand Touring now gets all the following items standard: adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warnings, traffic sign recognition, and automatic high-beam headlights.
