A few years ago, in response to growing environmental concerns, Mazda made its “Commitment to Planet Earth,” in which Mazda vowed to become carbon neutral by the year 2050. Taking a life cycle approach to this goal, Mazda has made changes to every aspect of the manufacturing, sales, and operation of its vehicles in the past few years in pursuit of that goal. A large part of that push to carbon neutrality involves updates to electrification and sustainable mobility that have already begun to define the future of Mazda in 2024.
SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY
Mazda’s SkyActiv® system consists of a set of automotive technologies designed to improve fuel efficiency and overall performance. SkyActiv® technology encompasses various aspects of a vehicle’s design, including the engine, transmission, chassis, and body. By optimizing these elements, Mazda vehicles become more efficient and last longer, contributing to the brand’s sustainability goals.
ELECTRIC/HYBRID OPTIONS
Electric and hybrid vehicle options are another important element of Mazda’s sustainability promise. Specifically, this meant introducing its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the Mazda CX-90 PHEV, in 2024, with plans to offer this option on other trims in the future. As it stands, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV offers drivers convenience due to its compatibility with most public and in-house charging solutions and its charging speed. The vehicles charge from 20% to 80% in less than three hours using a Level 2 AC charger.
THE NEW ERA OF MAZDA DESIGN
Mazda design also has an eye on the future that is focused on maintaining the same beautiful, clean and natural aesthetics that the brand is known for while still making important changes to efficiency, functionality, and comfort that will improve the driving experience.
AUTONOMOUS DRIVING AND SAFETY (ADVANCED DRIVER-ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS [ADAS])
Safety has always been a key part of the Mazda driving experience, which is why the company continues to integrate and improve its unique i-ACTIVSENSE® driver safety system into new vehicle models. The i-AVTIVSENSE® system includes a suite of tools that provides autonomous driving and other driver-assist technologies, including:
- Acceleration control (automatic transmission only)
- Adaptive front-lighting system (AFS)
- Forward obstruction warning
- High beam control
- Lane departure warning system (LDWS)
- Mazda radar cruise control (MRCC)
- Rear vehicle monitoring system
- Smart City brake support
CONNECTIVITY AND INFOTAINMENT
Mazda’s commitment to leading-edge technology extends to the interior where connectivity and infotainment systems make integrating Mazda vehicles with a digital lifestyle a seamless process.
